Chemist Position at the Bohning Company

My name is Karen Abrahamson and I am the HR Manager for the Bohning Company, a manufacturer of plastic and chemical products for the archery industry.  We are located in Northern Michigan.  The owner of the company, Larry Griffith, is currently attending Case Western in the Ph.D. program.  He has asked me to contact you regarding a chemist position that we have available.

The Bohning Company was founded by a chemist 65 years ago.  We manufacture paints and adhesives for the archery industry.  We currently have a chemist position available and have had difficulty finding someone to fill this position.  We are looking for someone with knowledge of polymers, paints, coatings and adhesives.  Would you be able to point me in the right direction to get access to current or past student who might have this knowledge and are looking for a position?  We are a smaller company, but we afford a chemist a great opportunity to be creative and perform large amounts of R & D.  They can make this position what they want it to be.  There are large amounts of potential with this position.

I would appreciate any help you might be able to provide.  If you have any questions, please let me know.  Thank you for your time and I look forward to hearing from you.

PhD in Translational Biomedical Science (TBS) – University of Rochester Medical Center

Please let me take a moment of your time to introduce myself (PJ Simpson-Haidaris). I am the new Director of the PhD Program in Translational Biomedical Science (TBS) in the Clinical & Translational Science Institute at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry. I am requesting that you consider passing along the information about our TBS PhD program as described in the attached brochure to interested undergraduates, masters and medical students who may be considering predoctoral training in the cutting edge application of both basic and clinical research into translational medicine.

The emphasis on translational medicine has been embodied by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) with the proposal for a new Center, NCATS—the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences. According to the director of the NIH, Francis Collins (PMID: 21734173), “The mission of NCATS will be to catalyze the generation of innovative methods and technologies to enhance the development, testing, and implementation of diagnostics and therapeutics across a wide range of human diseases and conditions.” The road in getting basic science discoveries translated into clinical practices that benefit patients “remains a slow, expensive, and failure-prone endeavor.” Indeed, big pharmaceutical and biotech companies have been laying off basic and R&D scientists in record numbers over the last decade due to the lack of return on investments in defining the next blockbuster drug or medical device, as well as the ending of patent protection for existing high impact drugs. Many of the jobs for our next generation of academic and pharmaceutical basic researchers are being outsourced, and traditional PhD programs in basic sciences lag behind in preparing our graduates for careers in translational biomedical research.

Our PhD program in TBS is supported by a Clinical & Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the NIH and, unlike other CTSA educational programs designed for clinicians to obtain advanced degrees in translational/clinical research, our program is open to predoctoral candidates with bachelors, masters or medical degrees. Our program offers flexibility in targeted didactic training in basic disease pathology in the student’s chosen discipline coupled with coursework in biostatistics, epidemiology, or clinical trial design and regulatory affairs, as well as practical skills in grant writing and scientific communications. Together with a dissertation research project that is mentored by a Clinical Translational Investigator and a Basic Science Investigator, the didactic skills are an important part of our training program to prepare our graduates to become next generation leaders to translate basic biological discoveries into clinical applications that improve human health and well being.

Thank you in advance for your kind consideration of this request.

Warm Regards,

Katie Libby

Oakwood Labs is hiring Chemistry Majors

Good afternoon,

We are looking for a Chemistry major to fill our open Analytical Chemist I position.  This position is entry level, and we are looking for people with GPAs of 3.0 or higher.  Attitude also plays a huge role in the people we hire; we want hard workers who have a passion for Chemistry and love working in the laboratory.  We have had a lot of success with Case grads in the past and are reaching out to you now, as our need is immediate.

I am hoping the attached job description with my contact information can be forwarded to the department to be sent to recent grads who are looking for positions.  We are hiring for this position asap, so I am hoping you reach out to those students that are available to work full time right now.  We have an inclination toward US citizens, but will remain open to international students as well (though it is not preferred, considering the number of students we have sponsored in the past).

If you have any questions for me or need anything, please feel free to reach out to me.  I thank you very much in advance for your help, and we hope we are able to find a Case graduate to fill this position!
