Research Experience: Pediatric Oncology Education Program

We invite your best students to apply for our NIH/NCI-funded (5 R25CA023944-29) Pediatric Oncology Education (POE) Program <http://www.stjude.org/poe>. The program offers a unique opportunity for pre-doctoral students preparing for careers in the biomedical sciences, medicine, and pharmacy to gain biomedical and oncology research experience. Students participate in basic or clinical oncology research, research and clinical conferences, and a core lecture series designed specifically for them. All participants make a PowerPoint presentation on their research project and submit a report on their research project written in the style of a journal in which their faculty mentor publishes.

A primary goal of the POE program is to encourage students to pursue a career in cancer research. Thus, we are particularly interested in highly qualified students with a serious career interest in cancer research, either as a clinical scientist or laboratory-based research scientist.

Chemistry & Biochemistry Graduate Programs at New Mexico State U.

I am writing to seek your assistance in identifying bright young students for graduate study in Chemistry or Biochemistry.  As the Department Head of the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at New Mexico State University, I am in charge of recruiting students for our PhD program, which is ranked 70th nationally by the National Science Foundation.  Our department has 17 faculty members who are dedicated to excellence in both teaching and research.  Not only do they provide almost daily basic assistance in research activities, but also help their students find good career positions upon completion of their graduate degree.  Recent graduates of our program have received postdoctoral positions at Los Alamos National Laboratories, The Ohio State University, the University of California–Santa Barbara, the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas.  Some graduate students have gone onto careers in academia and government, while others are employed in research positions at companies such as Eli–Lilly, Pfizer, and Aventis.

We offer competitive teaching assistantships to all students admitted into our program.  We do not admit students into our program that cannot be supported financially during their first year of study.  The maximum annual stipend is $21,289.  Students after their first year are typically supported by research funds from their chosen advisor or from departmental funds, provided that they are making good progress toward completion of their graduate degree.

We offer M. S. and Ph.   • Maintain the product file history as required to provide all the product information necessary to demonstrate the products are meeting all pertinent regulations.

GENERAL SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this position is to participate in the day to day workings of the FT-IR lab, however as the workload demands, this person could perform testing in the Thermal and Chromatography labs as well.  In addition the candidate will be needed in other areas of PDI such as physical testing when the work load or staffing requires it. This includes the operation of the instruments and testing equipment in a safe and cost-effective manner, the timeliness of responses to internal and external requests, and the management of the priorities of the programs.  A strong desire to work in the area of analytical chemistry is required.

Ateriocyte seeking scientists for cell therapy products

The Associate Scientist will conduct research and validation studies on stem cell expansion/differentiation platform prototypes leading to the development of commercial products.  Responsibilities include presenting research findings internally and possibly externally at scientific conferences, executing ongoing collaborative research programs, identifying and/or evaluating  new technologies for development/commercialization, assisting in preparation of application materials for competitive funding opportunities, including coordination with potential collaborators and their institutions, and providing general assistance to the Senior Scientist as required.

Must be able to work with minimal supervision to manage and complete programs and projects in a timely fashion within budget.

A college degree is required.  A Master’s Degree preferred in life sciences or engineering with biomedical focus.  Three years of experience with in vitro cell culture, preferably with stem cell expansion and differentiation experience.   Good working knowledge of and experience with  standard cell characterization tools including flow cytometry, fluorescent microscopy and ELISA.  Experience with technology commercialization in fields of stem cell therapies, cell and tissue engineering, biomaterials, and/or fractionated blood products and Good Manufacturing Practices is also preferred.
