Re:      K-12 Science Teaching Opportunities & Virtual Job Fairs

Each year, Southern Teachers Agency helps hundreds of candidates find jobs at outstanding private & independent schools throughout the South – nearly 600 schools in 16 States from Pennsylvania to Florida to Texas. Private schools value candidates who have participated in a teacher certification program, but have the flexibility to hire teachers with a strong academic background in Chemistry who have not taken education courses.

While we do communicate with the career services office at your college/university, we know that in many cases, someone in your position will be more familiar with the students who want to teach middle or high school science after they graduate. In addition to the posters we mailed to your department, we email announcements about STA job fairs and available positions, and hope that you will share this information with students who may be interested in teaching Chemistry.  If there are other members of your department who would be more appropriate recipients, please forward this message or let us know.

The hiring season for the 2014-15 academic year will begin very soon and we encourage students who are interested in teaching to apply to STA as soon as possible.  Schools have already begun to list vacancies for the next school year! The STA online application can be found on our website: www.SouthernTeachers.com.

We have exciting news about STA’s recruitment fairs in 2014! STA is leaping into the digital future and, beginning February 6th, will host 12 virtual recruitment fairs throughout the entire hiring season!  Registered STA candidates may participate in these fairs and will be able to digitally meet school administrators face-to-face and interview for vacancies without having to travel. Of course, there is no cost to participate!

Additionally, STA will host a traditional Teacher Recruitment Fair for STA candidates in 2014: STA @ NAIS: Orlando, FL, February 26-28. The deadline to apply is February 12th.

Thank you for your consideration.  If you have questions, we would be delighted to speak with you about how we may be able to help your students find teaching positions.

Best regards,

Shannon Johnston

One-Year Visiting Position in Chemistry at The College of Wooster

One-year, full-time Visiting Assistant Professor to teach Organic Chemistry at the College of Wooster beginning in August 2014.  Full details are attached.  Further information about our department is available online at http://www.wooster.edu/academics/areas/chemistry .

Call for Student Posters at Green Chemistry Conference in Cleveland

On April 1, 2014 there will be a  Great Lakes Green Chemistry Conference with a focus on “Innovating for Success in Green Chemistry” in Cleveland. Please feel free to forward and/or post the attached ‘Call for Student Posters’ to any students, researchers or graduate students who might be interested.

The purpose of this conference is to show how innovations in green chemistry drive advances in business, academia, policy, and human health protection in the Great Lakes region, and how integration and                      collaboration of these areas are crucial for success. The conference will include keynotes, plenary sessions, panel sessions, breakout sessions and a poster networking exchange.

A poster networking exchange  session will be offered to enable interactive discussions for research and implementation strategies related to green chemistry. We are inviting posters from anyone involved in research, safer formulations, new product development and implementation, decision-making tools, or technical assistance. Ideally, posters will make a connection between green chemistry expertise and business needs in product development in safer chemistry.   Student involvement is encouraged and entries from students are welcome.

Please submit by January 31, 2014 to kim@p2.org.     If you have any questions, please contact Kim Richards at kim@p2.org or (202)299-9701.
