 Summer is upon us and schools are still in need of great science teachers!  Each year, STA helps hundreds of teachers and coaches find jobs at outstanding college preparatory schools throughout the South—nearly 600 schools in 16 states from Texas to Florida to Pennsylvania. Southern Teachers Agency currently has 22 chemistry and physical science job listings from PreK-12 schools for the 2014-15 academic year.  These jobs range from physical science at the middle-school level through high school AP Chemistry. 

Certification is not required by private schools for many science teaching jobs.

Requirements: 

Candidates do not have to be in a teacher-preparation program or major in education to be considered for faculty positions at outstanding independent schools. While a degree in science education is desirable, most middle and upper grade teachers are hired based on their major—their subject knowledge—and their gifts for working with young people. Candidates should have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Chemist position with Valspar’s Protective Coatings Group.  Exciting opportunity to join a talented team of researchers at the newly renovated Valspar Applied Science and Technology (VAST) Center in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota.  The position is within the Protective Coatings group with an emphasis on development of new and differentiated technologies for the Oil, Gas and Water transportation industries.  Research emphasis will be on the investigation of the fundamental structure-property relationships and ultimate formulation of coatings that will expand market share.  Technologies will be in both liquid and powder coatings.  A strong background in Organic Chemistry and Polymer Science with a “hands on” mentality will be needed for success.

2014 Baxter Young Investigat​or Awards

THIS IS THE FINAL REMINDER THAT THE DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATIONS IS MONDAY, JUNE 30 2014.

We are pleased to announce that our sixth annual Baxter Young Investigator Awards program is underway, and currently accepting applicants.  The deadline for application submissions is June 30, 2014. The program is intended to recognize research applicable to the development of therapies and medical products that save and sustain patients’ lives.

Please consider forwarding the attached “call for applications” to your senior level graduate students or postdocs.  They will have an opportunity to win one of the up to six first place awards of $2,000 or one of the up to ten second place awards of $500. First place winners will also receive travel and two nights’ accommodations to the Baxter R&D Headquarters in Round Lake, Illinois, where they will present their research to the Baxter R&D community at an awards ceremony on September 18, 2014.

PiNO CONFERENCE 2014 – Please Share With Your Students

Case Western Reserve University’s Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering  would like to extend an invitation to  post-doctorate, graduate, and undergraduate students  to attend the Polymer Initiative of Northeast Ohio (PiNO) Conference on June 20, 2014 in Cleveland, Ohio. 

PiNO is a one-day conference where students seeking internships, co-ops, or full-time employment are given the opportunity  to present posters and network with industrial representatives from numerous companies such as PPG Industries, Avery Dennison, Sealed Air, and Goodyear.
