Organic Chemist – Energizer

The Energizer Technology Laboratory is seeking candidates for employment who are interested in working in the field of Organic Chemistry.

Located in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio, our staff is engaged in the research and development of primary batteries and flashlights. We are currently the largest manufacturer of batteries and flashlights in the world and our product lines are sold under the ENERGIZER and EVEREADY brands.

The candidate will work on product research and development projects aimed at implementing new battery products to extend Energizer’s product line, or improving existing product lines to maintain Energizer’s technological leadership and competitiveness in the battery industry. The work involves applying fundamental understanding of organic chemistry to a diverse set of materials and applications to achieve project objectives. Fundamental knowledge of organic materials and their interaction in electrochemical systems is required. The employee will assess existing and identify improved organic materials and the processes used to apply them to battery systems vs. synthesizing new organic materials. The employee will be expected to follow developments in the field of organic chemistry and to identify those developments that may be applied to improved battery materials, processes and products. The employee will work in a team environment with chemists, electrochemists, material scientists and chemical engineers. The employee must develop good working relationships with material suppliers, toll manufactures, contract research companies, and Energizer Manufacturing facilities. The employee must contribute to cost reduction and continuous improvement programs through the evaluation of alternate materials.
Accountabilities The employee must be cognizant of the pertinent technical literature, as well as be able to monitor and provide technical analysis of competitor product improvements and intellectual property. It is expected that work will be performed in a team environment comprised of both internal and external partners across multiple disciplines, culminating in regular written documentation and oral presentations which both assess and record the progress of the work along with recommendations to project steps.

The employee will supervise and develop non-exempt colleagues and provide annual appraisals of their performance and developmental feedback. They will mentor others and provide technical and project leadership, and will be expected to participate in establishing Intellectual Property related to assigned programs.

All Energizer employees are expected to practice proper safety procedures, provide leadership to others in key result areas, and participate in continuous improvement activities, serving as a team member as required.

Required Skills and Experience M.S. in Engineering or Science with 10 + years in similar position or Ph.D. in Engineering or Science with minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.

Preferred Skills and Experience Applied Research/application of organic materials to electrochemical systems. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Team leadership, Stage Gate Protocol, Design for Six Sigma, Statistics and Design of Experiments.
Working Relationships & Environment Reports to Technology Manager or Director. Key relationships will include Technology, Engineering, Quality and Operations groups.

Travel up to 20% is required. The employee will also be expected to participate in occasional teleconference meetings with global colleagues in different time zones.
